Waves, Swamps, & Bayous: Southeastern Waters - Part 5
Wednesday, 14 November 2018
This morning we had a snorkeling tour of the coral reef off Key Largo, Florida.
We had a 2 1/2 hour snorkeling tour in the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. It took about 45 minutes each way to get to our snorkeling site, near the Key Largo Dry Rocks. |
The 2-foot waves were the roughest seas I’ve snorkeled in. It took about 15 minutes to get accustomed to the waves, but the water temperature was a very comfortable 82°F (28°C). |
There quite a few fish, but the wavy coral sea fans were what attracted me the most. |
Our snorkeling site was very near the underwater statue of “Christ of the Abyss", put there about 50 years ago (1961). |
